For this activity, Moodle enables you to submit your group assignment online and assess the performance/contribution of your peer group, and if enabled, yourself, in relation to a group task. You should think carefully about the grades you give and the comments you make – ensure they are truthful and constructive as they will be reviewed by lecturers.

You must submit all parts of your assignment and your peer grading prior to the assignment deadline. Ensure you are familiar with your School's policy on assignment submission prior to undertaking an assignment.

A Peer assignment is identified by an icon of two people alongside a pen and paper:

Submitting an assignment file

  1. Find the Peer Assessment title from the relevant topic or section in the module homepage. Read the instructions underneath carefully to ensure that you have completed the assignment correctly. Please note; there will be limits set on the file size or the amount of files you can submit.
  2. Click on the Peer Assessment title and your assignment with peer grading and comments area will open. You may also have quick links at the top of the page using your modules dashboard, where you can also access this link.
  3. Upload your group assignment file(s) to the Assignment area. 

  4. To submit your group assignment you can simply drag and drop your assignment file(s) from your computer desktop or file manager.

    1. Open windows explorer to navigate to your files (right mouse click on Start and select Explore).

    2. Navigate to the drive on which the file is saved.

    3. Resize the explorer window, so that the browser and the Moodle module are visible.

    4. Click and hold on the relevant file that you want to upload to Moodle and drag it into the file submissions box.  

    5. Drop your file onto into the box by releasing the click. This may take a few moments so please be patient.

    6. The file will appear in the box when it has been uploaded.
      Submitting multiple files - If you are required to submit more that one file as part of your assignment repeat these steps for each of the files that you are required to upload. Please refer to your module leader and the assignment instructions for information on the number of files that you are required to submit and the file size.

    Alternatively, you can use the manual method by clicking on the Add icon on the top left of the upload tool.

    1. Once you have clicked on the Add icon a File Upload window will open.

    2. Browse to the drive on your computer where your file is saved. Select the file that you want to upload.

    3. Click on Open.

    4. You will be brought back to your assignment submission area and the file will appear in the box.
    5. Click Upload this file.

    6. Your assignment submission area will display your uploaded file.
      Submitting multiple files - If you are required to submit more that one file as part of your assignment repeat these steps for each of the files that you are required to upload. Please refer to your module leader and the assignment instructions for information on the number of files that you are required to submit and the file size.


    Note

    You can submit your group assignment at any time before, and if late submission is enabled, after the due date. Please check your School's policy on assignment submission, as there may be late penalties. Each group member will be able to see and edit the submitted file(s). When the assignment has finished, your overall submission will be made uneditable by the Lecturer and no further submissions will be allowed.


  5. In the Grade you peers area, you will now be asked to give a grade out of five for each of your fellow group members, along with a comment on their performance. If enabled, you may also be asked to grade and comment on yourself. Make sure you think carefully about the grades you give and the comments you make – ensure they are truthful and constructive as they will be reviewed by lecturers. 

    Note

    Before you can submit your group assignment, you will need to complete the Grade your peers section. Only you and the lecturer will be able to see the peer grades and comments you have given.


  6. When ready, click Save Changes.
  7. A summary page will appear displaying any submitted file(s) and your peer grades and comments for each of your group members.
  8. Click Save Changes to save your submission.
  9. The file(s) and your peer grades with comments will appear on the page and your submission status will show which members of your group still need to submit their peer grades. Any member in the group can edit the submitted file(s). Please note; when assignment has finished, your overall submission will be made uneditable by the Lecturer and no further submissions will be allowed.


Deleting an uploaded assignment

If you delete an assignment it is your responsibility to ensure that you submit the correct file before the deadline. Your lecturer will be able to see if you have deleted an assignment but will not be able to access the file and it will not be counted as a submission. 

If you have uploaded the wrong file as part of your assignment you will be able to delete the file prior to the assignment deadline (unless the Submit Assignment button has been enabled, see above).

  1. To delete an uploaded assignment click on Edit my submission on the bottom of your assignment submission status page
  2. This will open the File Submission tool. Click on the file you wish to delete.
  3. Selecting the file you wish to delete will open a File Edit window. (If you simply want to change the name of your file update the name and click Update).
  4. Click Delete and then click OK.
  5. Ensure you then upload the correct file and Save changes.
  6. You will receive a notification within your University email inbox stating that the submission has been added.

Viewing assignment submission

You can view the assignment you submitted and your peer grades with comments by clicking on the link to the Peer Assessment from your module homepage. The date and time you submitted the assignment is available on the submission status, along with the file(s) you have submitted and your peer grades with comments.
